He likes creating systems and watching them.

https://vimeo.com/1052765885

Runs a particle system that is not running physics.

He likes that it’s an emergent system: structures appear which were not introduced by the developer. He added a unique feature, which is mutation triggered by claustrophobia. The system is complex / chaotic. It’s very dependent on the number of species in the simulation. When watching, it feels as if there is intentionality, even if there’s none.

See “Particle Life” as a reference.

AI Animated Short Film (YouTube): https://youtu.be/r_4wgxV_nWs

He signed up for Runway, first created animated 3D shapes with Unreal + Niagara + Particle systems, and then used a video-to-video tool to convert the visuals into translucent creatures.

Tom aka Pixtur

He’s been like 5 years thinking abut how to deal with graphs that can be zoomed in and out, panned, etc.

Before he used to use a tool like Werkzeug by a the Farbrausch team.

But now he has created his own. What’s special is that the nodes can be made to touch each other, without the need to add cables connecting them. A bit like in Scratch.

He mentions that people build insane systems and they are extremely fast at using them, but no other person in the planet can use them. In the end, you need users, and ideally you build things that other people can use too, even if it’s a bit less faster to use.

Gilbert (Autr)

Presents a project he’s worked on for a year and a half or two.

Most of his works are analog video, or interaction design - escaping AI.

He is interested interaction design between physical world and digital.

He worked on a project in Greece, where they pair an artist with a factory.

Learnt about polyhedra, made paper polyhedra, a web based tool to explore 3D polyhedra, using Wythoff Construction.

Went to Greece and started 3D printing with recycled and compostable filaments. Created plugs and connectors to build the polyhedra. Shows Arundo Donax system, sculptures, tensegrity experiments, and initial AD3 framework (a 3D framework for web).

Ocean Twist: a short animation of an underwater world he’s been working on for a while.

He animates in 3DSMax which exports lots of json files, which are imported into Processing.

It was interesting to go back to key-frame animation after years of programming all motion, and felt a bit wasteful to animate things that can only be displayed in one way, when compared to programming, which can be shown again and again in different ways.
