We had no computer for this first Stammtisch of 2015, but much was talked about, so here’s our train of consciousness:

• Black Mirror TV series, about the impending dangers of technology
• Her film, about the friendlier side of technology

• People need to understand encryption to maintain digital privacy–here are some good resources:

  • Little Brother and Homeland by Cory Doctorow (free downloads directly from the author!) - a very approachable guide to security and hacker culture, aimed at young adults
  • Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson

  • The Code Book by Simon Singh - an examination of codes throughout human history
  • The Information by James Gleick - the history of information
  • What Technology Wants by Kevin Kelly - an exploration of the globalized stage of technological development

• The Salt of The Earth is an impressive documentary by Wim Wenders & photographer Juliano Salgado about him work. Still 4 days left to see it .
